Development status and FAQ

Last Disciple is an independent game in development. No release date has been announced. This page covers what is in the build, what is not, and common questions.

Current features

The build includes settlement construction, resource gathering, farming, villager jobs and needs, the Hand, miracles and a creature. You can lay roads, draw walls and zone districts, raise maniples and fight a rival settlement. A parchment world map, its overlays, and Tab overlays on the ground are in the build. Ponds and fishing, berry forage and gatherers, fuller meadows, a rival town's own market, impressiveness, hamlet growth and regard, aqueduct and cistern water, lifelong jobs, tree felling and building fire are in testing and have not had a full play session yet.

The roadmap describes each of those in more detail.

Current limitations

The Disciple supports third-person movement, looking around, sprinting and jumping. Entry and return to the god view currently use console commands. Interaction, combat, equipment and progression are not available in that mode, and the god-view tools cannot be used while you are controlling him.

Rival scenarios are optional, and the rival sends one levy at a time. The full campaign is not built, and the wider setting remains a story draft. Player-made scenarios and modding support are unconfirmed. The game autosaves every few minutes and Continue on the main menu opens the newest save, but there is no in-game save or load menu yet.

Frequently asked questions

What kind of game is Last Disciple?

Last Disciple is a single-player god game set in a Roman world, developed in Unreal Engine 5. You build and manage a settlement, work the world through the Hand, raise a creature and command armies.

How far along is development?

Substantial work remains on the Disciple and the campaign. The roadmap separates what is built from what is planned.

Can I play it?

There is no public download on this site. Playtest announcements are posted on the Discord.

Which platforms are planned?

PC is the announced platform. No console or mobile version has been announced.

Is it single-player or multiplayer?

Last Disciple is single-player. Multiplayer has not been announced.

What are maniples, standards and the Fanum?

A maniple is a body of soldiers recruited from your own villagers at a Drill Yard. The standard is the banner you plant to give a maniple its order: hold ground, attack, or garrison your wall. The Fanum is the seat of your power at the centre of the town. Its tiers are Sacred Grove, Fanum and Great Fanum; the higher tiers allow stronger miracles.

Can I control the creature?

You can give it work and it decides how to do it. Assign a role to guide its work and plant a flag to keep it nearby. It has its own temper and a memory of how you have treated it. A creature that neither trusts nor fears you can refuse to go where you send it.

Is the setting historically accurate?

It is a fictional Roman world: the premise is that Rome fell and a single ship escaped with the Vestal flame, the Penates (household gods) and the last Romans aboard.
